The year began with an exciting transformation of our outdoor environment, including a refreshed garden space and the addition of a veggie patch. This upgrade has created a hands‑on learning area where children can explore, experiment and connect with nature every day.

As the Director of Grow Early Learning Centre Blacktown, I am incredibly privileged to witness the magic that unfolds here every single day. Early childhood is a time of wonder, curiosity and rapid growth, and throughout the year, our centre becomes a place where learning is not only taught but truly lived and celebrated.

Each day is filled with meaningful educational experiences designed to support children’s development across all learning areas. From hands-on science explorations and creative art projects to literacy-rich play and problem-solving activities, our educators thoughtfully plan experiences that nurture children’s interests, strengths and individuality. Learning at our centre is joyful, engaging, and purposeful — because children learn best when they feel safe, supported, and inspired.

Our toddlers and preschoolers recently went on an excursion to the local park, where they had the opportunity to engage with the outdoors alongside their peers and educators, outside of the usual centre environment. Accompanied by their educators, the children embraced the outdoors with enthusiasm, engaging in play, exploration and meaningful learning.

They enjoyed climbing, sliding and balancing on the park’s equipment, building physical confidence and coordination. Alongside these active moments, the children also took time to observe the natural world around them as they spotted birds in the sky and insects in the grass and trees. A shared picnic snack added to their sense of community, as the children enjoyed this special moment with their peers in the natural surroundings of the park.

The walk to and from the park created opportunities to practice road safety and social awareness. By following traffic rules and walking in a group, the children demonstrated growing independence and responsibility.

This picnic excursion not only supported their physical and cognitive development but also helped the children strengthen their connection to the local community, encouraging a sense of belonging and a deeper understanding of the world around them.

Chinese-Mandarin language classes

The early years, particularly under the age of five, are a critical period for language development. To support children’s language skills and promote cultural diversity, children from the Lorikeet (toddler) and Kookaburra (preschool) Rooms have begun their Chinese Mandarin language learning journey.

This program is guided by the principles of the Early Years Learning Framework v2.0, where play-based learning is central. Through engaging activities such as songs, flashcards and movement games, children are introduced to Chinese Mandarin in a fun and meaningful way.

The learning content is thoughtfully integrated with our broader program, allowing children to explore familiar themes such as numbers, colours, and Australian animals, using Chinese Mandarin vocabulary. This approach not only fosters early language development, but also nurtures children’s curiosity about different cultures and ways of communicating.

Another year done and dusted with great cheer!

This year, we celebrated our 2024 Graduates with a visit to the local zoo after their graduation performance and luncheon at the Centre. Added more to our lovely memories of them all with happy tears and laughter.
